Why choose us to De-moss your roof.

When it comes to Roof cleaning, I can without a doubt claim to be one of the most knowledgeable people in the trade. From a young age, I use to help my father out on the weekends cleaning roofs for housing associations and council properties throughout Scotland. Eventually taking over the business many years later and with over 20+ years experience you have come to the right place.

Roof cleaning methods

We offer 3 different methods, low/medium pressure, scraping and hot water/steam. The method best used would depend on the roof surface and condition. Most of the time low/medium pressure washing followed with a biocide treatment for most roofs, will provide instant long lasting results. Most people are advised not to use pressure on their roofs due to misinformation online and would usually be advised it's carried out by a professional.

Hot water and steam is a lot more gentle on concrete surfaces, I generally use this method to clean old historic statues. I would only really consider using this method on newish granulated roofs under 10 years old. Unlike the modern polymer coated tile, the granulated tiles granule coating could be compromised by other methods however you will find these roof tiles to be rarely used nowadays. This option is available but can be a more expensive option.

Scraping the roof tile surface, for this method, I would use tile engineered cut blades or wire brush to scrape the head of the moss leaving behind the visible root. I would then apply a biocide treatment which will then kill off the roots structure. This service is becoming increasingly popular, please take into consideration the final result will never match that of a pressure clean.

Moss Problem

Mosses, lichen and algea can cause several problems once established on your roof.  Their roots system can bore into solid granite up to 12 mm!, So once established on your roof tiles, can possibly lead to frost attack and shaling of the roof tiles allowing water ingress into your home. Moss contamination can seriously increase the weight load on your roof structure, with added problems like block gutters and down pipes,  Mossy roof will only leads to faster deterioration, eventually costly replacement.
